Budgeting: 5 Ways to Stay Motivated
Budgeting is not always easy to stick with. It’s in the same group as healthy eating and New Year resolutions. Even if you have the best intentions it’s hard to stay motivated after the initial excitement of a new endeavor.
Here are a few tips to follow to keep yourself motivated as you hit the highs and lows of budgeting:
1. Read some success stories.
Search on Pinterest, YouTube (for videos), or Google for finance success stories. Hearing about other people who have achieved their goals, and learning how they got there, will give you that extra drive to keep going.
2. Set a definite goal
Setting yourself a specific goal to reach will be your biggest motivator. Without a goal you will be more likely to lose ambition and stray from your budget. So come up with an achievable goal and keep your eye on the prize!
3. Create a schedule or chart
Using a visual progress report is a great way to keep you motivated to continue. Plan out a schedule or draw up a progress chart. Choose a spot to keep it where you will see it on a daily basis. Continually having a visual reminder of your success will keep you on track to your goal.
4. Celebrate along the way
While tracking your progress it is a great idea to pat yourself on the back for your small successes.
5. Get a budget buddy
Having someone to share your goals and your successes along the way is a great way to stay on track. Keep each other motivated, or make it competitive. Find what works for you both and get each other going!
